    is this a joke?

whether this is a joke or not i dont care
i swear i have really come to dispise this god forsaken school and the oompa loompa that runs it. Parking permits are extremely expensive and have gone up every year I have been here yet I do not see where that money is going. The spots are not expanded in size or quantity. The science professors are almost all quite horrible. It becomes very clear that they are bitter miserable people who do not care about educating, it seems they get off on failing students (I will admit that the few good ones are more than good but they are few). The new dean of the medical school is a pompous jackass. He keeps bringing in new people to these high positions when there are fully capable people already within the university who should have been considered. To be honest there are plenty of people within the university who should hav been offered his position but whatever. Shalala has this vision of taking UM to this other level academically but she is alienating the few valuable people she has but also keeping the pieces of shit that overrun the faculty here. I also feel that the staff at the university (not faculty) are treated poorly and this micromanagment style that persists throughout the diff departments are worsening things. Insurance is insanely high and they require college degrees for secretary work and they will pay you like a high school graduate, its ridiculous. I am already a junior so I will not be transferring out but I certainly regret coming here, I do not feel I am getting what I pay for.

I’ve given this a lot of thought. This website is a horrible reflection of our university and I think you need to start being careful about what you put on the internet. I’m very sincere in my opinion on this. I saw it featured on Criticle Miami and Ignore Magazine and neither was flattering for our school or yourself. You’ve given people outside the school even if this is just for your class the impression that we are all complainers. Obviously these people are friends of yours or friends of friends that just want to fool around. You really should be a disclaimer on here. Not everyone who goes to UM complains about such petty things or has a lot of money as you gave the impression on Ignore and to the commenters on Criticle Miami. Give it some serious thought please.

    Vanessa,

I’m sorry that you don’t like the blog but that is simply our opinion. And about your comment about these being a joke, they are not. Only about 4 people that were interviewed I knew perviously; the others were just were randomly selected while sitting on campus. Maybe you should look at this blog as being somewhat beneficial for our fellow students. If there are problems happening on this campus then maybe after administration sees these videos they will do something about them. I do not tell people what to say on these videos; it is their choice. They only questions asked are their names, year and complaint. No one is forced. If they say they don’t want to, I walk away. If they want to, they end up on the blog.

    Hi all,

I have a very scary story to tell you, something that happened to a close friend at the University of Miami.

    Picture this:

    It’s midnight.

You’re in your dorm room with your room mate. You are crying because you had a very rough year – physically abusive relationships, violence, a death in the family.. And on top of it, most of your friends abandoned you because of lies that were told by an ex-boyfriend, who sexually assaulted you.

Your grades are suffering because of all the stress and trauma in your life.

But you’re gonna stay strong.. You know you can get through this…

All you want to do is go to sleep, but you’ve become a complete insomniac.

I think I’ll take a hot shower to relax, you decide. You get undressed, and enter the bathroom.

    It’s 1 in the morning.

Suddenly..You hear a knock on the door.

Who could that be? At 1 in the morning?
I don’t even have any friends anymore, you think to yourself.

    The knocks become more persistent.
    BANG BANG BANG.

You nervously throw on a towel and look through the peep hole. It’s the RA’s. Embarrassed and confused, you open the door.

“We smell marijuana,” RA#1 says, scanning the room like a hawk.

You laugh. Could this year get any worse? What the **# is she talking about?

“We’re going to have to look around the room,” the RA continues.

    She looks around.

    They find nothing.

You start to cry again hysterically- this year of hell is too much to handle.

    The RA’s ask what’s wrong.
    WHAT’S WRONG?
    WHAT’S WRONG?
WHY ARE YOU CRYING? they ask.

“I’d rather not say..” you sob, utterly humiliated.

“COME ON, YOU CAN TELL US. YOU CAN TRUST US.” they say. “WE WON’T TELL ANYONE. IT WILL JUST BE BETWEEN US GIRLS….. WE ARE HERE TO HELP.”

you end up telling them EVERYTHING – and even though it’s embarrassing, you feel relieved to let some of the pain out.

The RA’s take you down to the resident coordinator to explain the troubles you’re having – so she can “counsel” you.

At 3 in the morning, you return to your room, after the RA’s and resident coordinator say that they will “LET THIS ONE GO.”

    FAST FORWARD: TWO MONTHS LATER.

you received a note in the mail that you are charged with drugs and drug paraphernalia.

You are so confused. You recall that incident, but know for a fact that they said that they would ‘let it go’ — and for good reason! Since there were NO DRUGS EVER FOUND in your room.

THEY FORCE YOU TO GO TO A HEARING.. WITH A STRANGE MAN YOU’VE NEVER SEEN.. WHO IS HOLDING A REPORT IN HIS HANDS THAT DISCUSSES ALL THE PERSONAL PROBLEMS YOU’VE HAD IN YOUR LIFE.

    YOU ARE IN SHOCK.

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? HOW CAN MY PERSONAL LIFE BE DIVULGED ON THIS PIECE OF PAPER- FOR EVERYONE TO SEE?! THOSE RA’S TOLD YOU THAT IT WAS CONFIDENTIAL. THEY PROMISED!

HE GIVES YOU FINAL DISCIPLINARY PROBATION (EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE NO DISCIPLINARY RECORD ) AND FINES YOU HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS

You then go to the dean’s office weeks later for a “court hearing”

there are two student representatives there, who are supposed to act as neutral, jury-like, objective individuals — but they know your Ra’s and resident coordinator by name— the whole hearing is botched!

YOU THEN FIND OUT FROM A SOURCE THAT THEY DID THIS TO YOU BECAUSE OF DISCRIMINATION…

THE RA’S WERE DISCRIMINATING AGAINST YOU AND THAT’S WHY THEY DID IT, A SOURCE SAID.

THIS STORY IS THAT OF MY FRIEND’S.

    I’VE HEARD FROM MANY PEOPLE.

    THERE IS NO JUSTICE HERE.

NOBODY WILL HELP THESE GIRLS… THE ADMINISTRATION BRUSHED IT UNDER THE CARPET.

I GUARANTEE THIS IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THAT CAMPUS, BUT YOU DON’T HEAR ABOUT IT.

    DISGUSTING.
